OLAW invites applicants for the position of Animal Welfare Policy Scientist in the Division of Policy and Education in Bethesda, MD. The focus of this position is to facilitate compliance with laboratory animal welfare requirements of the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (Policy) through the development of policy clarification and guidance and implementation of training and educational programs on the care and use of laboratory animals. The ideal candidate will have Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) experience, technical knowledge, and scientific understanding of biomedical research best practices.
OLAW provides guidance and interpretation of the PHS Policy, supports educational programs, and monitors compliance with the Policy by assured institutions and PHS funding components to ensure the humane care and use of animals in PHS-supported research, testing, and training, thereby contributing to the quality of PHS-supported activities.
