OLAW Conversations: "21st Century Cures Act Community Q and A"
March 31, 2022, from 1:30 – 3:30 PM ET
Do you have questions about the 21st Century Cures Act initiatives from OLAW and the USDA? Would you like to know more about how to implement flexibilities outlined in recent guidance? Drs. Patricia Brown from OLAW and Elizabeth Theodorson from the USDA will lead this session dedicated to your questions, concerns, and comments!
The 21st Century Cures Act, Section 2034(d), directed the NIH, USDA, and FDA to “complete a review of applicable regulations and policies for the care and use of laboratory animals and to make revisions, as appropriate, to reduce administrative burden on investigators while maintaining the integrity and credibility of research findings and the protection of research animals.” In response to this directive, a working group from the NIH, USDA, and FDA identified regulations and policies that contribute to administrative burden. It released a report in 2019 detailing the planned actions of the three agencies.
OLAW Conversations is a series from OLAW and the ICARE Project that focuses on hot topics in the animal care and use community. The sessions are discussion-based, where information is presented by subject matter experts, and attendees add to the conversation by sharing their ideas, perspectives, and questions. Experts will also weigh in on participant discussion to offer insights and ensure regulatory compliance, where applicable.
Participants are welcome to submit their questions on these topics in advance by emailing OLAW.
