Rights, Regulatory Systems and Legal Revolution

Audience: The program is tailored to IACUC staff, IACUC members, IOs, veterinarians, investigators, compliance personnel, animal care staff and others involved in animal programs.

Speaker: Margaret (Mimi) Riley, JD, Professor, University of Virginia School of Law

Topic: In this webinar, Margaret Riley will discuss different notions of rights, especially in the context of animal rights and show how much of the discussion in this area involves people talking past each other. She’ll then explore how these notions of rights carry over into legal regulation and law with different results. She will also discuss the Non-Human Rights Project and why it would represent a dramatic departure from current legal norms.
