International Guiding Principles for Biomedical Research Involving Animals: 2012 Edition

International Guiding Principles

The International Guiding Principles describe currently accepted standards in the care and housing of animals used in research, the conduct of research programs, and the design and maintenance of research facilities at non-domestic stites. Through these standards, it empowers continued advancement in the humane care of research animals and in the proper conduct of research, research training, and biological testing with animals. The International Guiding Principles are published by the Council for International Organization of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) and the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (now the Board on Animal Health Sciences, Conservation, and Research). Institutions with a Foreign Assurance are required to adhere to the International Guiding Principles.
